Not bad, but don t get carried away... - I m surprised at how overwhelmingly positive all the feedback on this book is - it s pretty decent but I ve got some reservations. Firstly, the good bits: it s nicely structured and covers a comprehensive range of topics. It is mainly very read-able and doesn t skimp on the more basic detail. Plus it doesn t shy away from taking a few pages to explain a topic fully and clearly. My main bugbear with it is the slightly patronising, primary-school tone it has most of the time. The book is littered with pictures of a cartoon character called Fizz (as in, fizz-ics... geddit?) doing hilarious things to illustrate some of the points. OK, so I m a mature student and grumpy git, but I m certain that it would have annoyed me just as much when I was 16. On a related point, I personally found some of the explanations to be less helpful than they could have been. For instance, the analogy that explains voltage in a circuit as similar to a train going round a track picking up and dropping off coal (complete with cartoon image of choo-choo train) doesn t seem helpful to me at this level. When my lecturer explained it in terms of the potential energy carried / transferred per electron it made more sense, and was more helpful for the concepts we came to later in the course.A good book, but be warned it might antagonize you in places.

Brilliant!!! - I cannot fault this book in any way, it is very clearly set out and explains everything you need to pass your exams.I had great use with this manual and it helped me 100%This is a must for all Physics students.

Good, but not the best... - I didn t buy this book, I got it off a friend. While much better than revision books such as the ones from CGP and Letts, this book is beaten by Physics (Collins Advanced Science) which is the one I ended up ordering.

Simple, Attractive, and still managing to be a good textbook - I have just started AS Physics (AQA B), and already this book has been massively useful. The book actually came from my girlfriend, who had just finished AS Physics, and was not carying it on. I read various bits of it, out of interest, over the summer, and was amazed at how much it prepared me for the course! As has been mentioned in previous reviews, the diagrams make a nice comprimise between being easy on the eye and understandable, while not being too distracting. There is a slight comic feel to some of the exemples, as the same person (a cartoon character called Fizz) is used for all of the examples. I can t give personal feedback on what it s like to revise from (although my aforementioned girlfriend went from a predicted E to a solid C with this book), but I would definitely advise this book to anyone studying AS/A2 physics! Oh, and the tick-boxes in the back are very useful. They tell you exactly which parts (quoted as pages in the book) are needed for each year of each exam board - you d be surprised at the differences!!

Very Good! - A very good and detailed book for A2 and AS physics. though it is not targeted for my exam board, it is actually far better and more detailed than the official book i have for my OCR course!
